2010 – A shiny new year of possibilities
While planning the opening of a gallery specializing in fine art photography in Oslo in 2010, the artists we are so fortunate to represent are in demand all over the world. Christian Houge recently received information from his gallery in San Fransisco, the Hosfelt Gallery, that one of the motifs from the ‘Arctic Technology’ series is acquired by the Nevada Art Museum. The piece will be part of the museums permanent collection. The museum has an interesting approach focusing on “art organized around the general themes of land and environment. This thematic, rather than historical or stylistic focus on the environment mirrors the community’s growing interest in the protection of the land. Furthermore, the focus provides scope and direction for future acquisitions and exhibitions.”
It is also worth mentioning that Houge was nominated for the Prix Pictet in Paris in 2009. Sponsored by the Geneva private bank Pictet & Cie, the Prix Pictet is the world’s first prize dedicated to photography and sustainability. It has a unique mandate – to use the power of photography to communicate crucial messages to a global audience; and it has a unique goal – art of the highest order, applied to the immense social and environmental threats of the new millennium. Houge is participating in a group exhibition at Galleri A in Oslo to the 10th of January, and is also invited as one of the main exhibitors at the traveling group exhibition put together by the Akershus Art Centre, opening on January 16th.
